Zimbabwe’s ruling party moves to extend President Mnangagwa’s term until 2030

Zimbabwe’s President Mnangagwa term likely to be extended 2 years.

ZANU-PF, the party which has been in power since 1980, adopted a resolution at their annual conference directing the government to make the necessary amendments to extend Mnangagwa’s term. Following Zimbabwe’s Constitution, Mnangagwa is set to step down after two five-year terms in 2028. President Mnangagwa has stated that he has no plans to extend his term, but factions loyal to him have advocated strongly for it. In recent years, several African leaders have had their rule prolonged through similar constitutional changes.
