Difficult Hunt for 'Italian Unabomber'

Reports from Italy say analysis of the booby traps planted by a mysterious serial attacker known as the “Italian Unabomber” may yield few clues for investigators. The bomber is said to be using a mixture of nitrogen in his explosive devices. Unlike TNT, which the police could trace, nitrogen can be easily extracted from fertilisers and weed-killers. The task of the investigators is made all the more difficult because north-eastern Italy – where the attacks have been taking place – is a highly agricultural area. As such, someone purchasing fertiliser products is not likely to attract attention. Full Story
