A Pakistani paper has suggested that the road map to easing of Indo-Pak tension could also include complete “disowning” of Hizbul Mujahideen. News Line, a Karachi-based monthly magazine, said that this year the sub-continent’s summer did not look to be one of diplomatic discontent as a string of confidence-building measures by Delhi and Islamabad had radically changed the diplomatic environment in South Asia. It claimed that the day Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee stated about restoration of diplomatic ties with Pakistan, a high level meeting was called in Islamabad to decide a whole range of initiatives which Pakistan could come up with to match India’s offer.
