Seven people including three members of a family were killed in fresh separatist violence in India’s Jammu and Kashmir state, police said on Friday. They said suspected rebels attacked the house of a police informer on Friday morning in Kupwara district near the Pakistani border southwest of Srinagar, Kashmir’s summer capital. “His wife, mother and another relative were killed in the firing,” a police spokesman said. Earlier, police said two Indian soldiers were killed and five wounded when their vehicle ran over a land mine at Wangam, a village south of Srinagar, on Thursday evening. “The vehicle was completely destroyed in the mine explosion. Two soldiers died on the spot and five were injured,” an officer said. About a dozen separatist militant groups have been battling Indian security forces in Kashmir since 1989 but no group claimed responsibility for the latest attacks. Full Story
