The Provisional IRA deliberately provoked troops during the civil rights march on Bloody Sunday in an attempt to win support for their violent tactics, the daughter of a former Sinn Fein vice-president said yesterday. Deirdre McNamara has remained silent for almost three decades about the conversation she had with her father, Derry Kelleher, in which he described the Provisionals’ strategy of seeking a united Ireland by force. Ms McNamara claims her attempts to bring this knowledge to the attention of Lord Saville’s inquiry on Bloody Sunday met with no response. The IRA has always maintained that it never fired upon paratroopers when they entered the Bogside in Londonderry in 1972 and shot dead 13 demonstrators. Full Story
