Colombian Paramilitary Dissidents Open to Talks

A small but strategically important group of paramilitary gunmen that has refused to negotiate an end to its war against Colombian rebels says it now wants to open talks with the government. In an interview with newspaper El Tiempo published on Monday, the commander of the Medellin-based “Metro Block” said he had sent a letter to the government’s chief peace negotiator asking to explain “our point of view about peace.” “In a determined moment, it is useful to have a channel of communication open with the government, to search for a methodology and orient it toward a (peace) process,” said the Metro Block’s chief, who is known by the aliases “Rodrigo” or “Double-Zero.” Full Story
