China Jails Five Falun Gong Practitioners -TV

A court in northern China has sentenced five members of the Falun Gong spiritual group to up to eight years’ jail for setting up a company in China to promote their activities, state television reported on Wednesday. The No. 2 Intermediate People’s court in the northern city of Tianjin handed down the sentences, accusing the Falun Gong members of “disrupting the implementation of Chinese laws by means of an evil cult,” China’s Central Television (CCTV) reported. The five created a company to raise funds to help fellow members conduct unspecified activities, it said, without giving details. China outlawed the movement in 1999, labeling it an “evil cult” after 10,000 practitioners staged a protest outside the Chinese leadership compound in Beijing to demand recognition. Full Story
