A flurry of arrests has dismantled an al-Qaida cell accused of suicide bombings that killed 62 people in Turkey last month, the Istanbul governor said Friday — but he said several leading members still were at large abroad. About 160 people have been detained in recent weeks, and 35 of them have been charged, Gov. Muammer Guler said at a news conference. Ten other suspects, including a key member identified as Harun Ilhan, were expected to face charges later Friday. Authorities have also seized about 1,100 pounds of explosives, including the military explosive RDX, Guler said. “These explosives were going to be used in other attacks. Their discovery prevented that,” Guler said. Istanbul Police Chief Celalettin Cerrah said the seized explosive was enough to make three or four truck bombs. Full Story
