High-level consultations are under way in Nepal to defuse a political crisis over Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba`s attempts to extend the state of emergency to fight Maoists rebels. A leading figure in the ruling Nepali Congress party, Krishna Prasad Bhattarai, has returned to Kathmandu from London to oversee reconciliation efforts between Mr Deuba and a former prime minister, Girija Prasad Koirala.
