North Korea asks for UN help after railway explosion

Pyongyang officially asked the United Nations for help following a rail disaster in North Korea and several aid agencies will be sent to the area, the world body said. “A formal request for international assistance in response to the disaster was received by the United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator in Pyongyang this afternoon from the government,” the UN’s European office in Geneva said. Aid officials would be dispatched to the accident site near to the North Korean border with China on Saturday, it said in a statement. The UN’s food agency said earlier Friday that Pyongyang had accepted an offer of assistance from the United Nations. Full Story
