Around 400 foreign nationals who had been suspected of links to Al-Qaeda will register with authorities in Pakistan’s tribal areas with Afghanistan in return for amnesty, officials said. The registration in the South Waziristan tribal territory will start from Friday in terms of an agreement reached at a meeting between tribal elders and Pakistani authorities Wednesday, they said. Tribal militant leader Nek Mohammad, a former commander for Afghanistan’s ousted Taliban government and a trainer of Central Asian fighters during the hardliners’ five-year rule, attended the meeting. “Nek Mohammad and company have cooperated well and they have agreed to report foreigners, who are living with them as their guests, for registration and amnesty,” Islamist MP Abdul Malik announced at a tribal meeting.
