Abu Hamza al-Masri, the fiery Islamic cleric accused by the United States of being a “freelance consultant” to terror groups across the world, is to appear in a central London court via video link. Egyptian-born Hamza, held at high-security Belmarsh prison in southeast London, was arrested in May after an extradition request from the United States, where officials believe he played a key role in Osama bin Laden’s Al-Qaeda network. Washington has brought 11 terrorism-related charges against the cleric, including several relating to the seizure of 16 Western tourists in Yemen in December 1998, two of whom were Americans.
