A suicide car bomber struck early Wednesday near the Green Zone in central Baghdad, killing at least eight Iraqis, an official said. At least 34 Iraqis were wounded, according to Saad Al-Amli, director general of the health minister’s office. There were conflicting casualty numbers. Earlier, a U.S. military official and Prime Minister Ayad Allawi said 10 Iraqis — seven civilians and three National Guard members — were killed and at least 40 Iraqi civilians and a U.S. soldier were wounded.
