Accused rights abusers granted visas

While the immigration service has been busy deporting foreign human-rights abusers, American diplomats have given visas to at least two other torture suspects for trips to the United States. Richard Krieger, a South Florida human-rights activist, discovered recently that two foreign officials suspected of human-rights violations — one from Uruguay and the other from Liberia — received diplomatic visas. A State Department official confirmed the Uruguayan and the Liberian received visas, but said the agency could not corroborate the allegations in the Uruguayan case and had little choice in the Liberian case.
