When prison authorities in Terre Haute, Ind., strap 32-year-old Timothy McVeigh down May 16 and send a lethal injection into his bloodstream, his will be the most public execution in the history of the United States. Thanks to a ruling by Attorney General John Ashcroft expected later this week, McVeigh’s execution will be broadcast on closed circuit television to Oklahoma City, where families of the victims will be gathered to watch him die.
