Hizbollah, branded a terrorist group by Washington, won a ministerial post for the first time in Lebanon on Tuesday when Prime Minister Fouad Siniora formed the country’s first government since Syrian forces withdrew. But pro- Syria Hizbollah’s cabinet entry was balanced by the fact the government’s overall make-up reflected elections last month that swept an anti-Syrian majority to parliament for the first time since the 1975-1990 civil war ended. President Emile Lahoud, a close ally of Damascus, approved the 24-member cabinet after three weeks of tough negotiations with Siniora, who has the backing of parliament’s majority coalition leader Saad al-Hariri.
