Brazilian police say they have killed a gang leader considered one of Rio de Janeiro’s most wanted criminals. Police said Pedro Machado Lomba Neto, known as Pedro Dom, was a young man from a middle-class family whose gang had terrorised wealthy neighbourhoods. He had thrown a grenade at police officers and tried to flee on a motorcycle, but the officers shot him dead, the Rio police chief said. Full Story
