Hamas, Jihad say they will not attend Cairo meeting of Palestinian groups

Two Islamic militant Palestinian groups which have claimed scores of suicide bombings in Israel, said Tuesday they will not attend a meeting in Cairo to discuss ending attacks on Israeli civilians, a move which threatens to torpedo Egyptian cease-fire efforts. Egyptian officials have said they were hopeful Palestinian factions invited for talks here this week will back a proposal for a one-year halt in attacks on Israeli civilians. Tuesday, Egyptian officials close to the talks said Egypt was not formally informed of the two group’s decision. Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Maher told The Associated Press he believed Hamas was coming. But Moussa Abu Marzook, a leader of the Islamic Resistance Movement, Hamas, told the AP that “Hamas will not attend the meetings in Cairo because not all Palestinian factions were invited.” Full Story
