Death penalty sought in trial of Yemen Qaeda number two

A public prosecutor called for the death sentence during the final hearing in the trial of the alleged number two in the Yemen branch of the Al-Qaeda terror network. But Saudi-born Mohammed Hamdi al-Ahdal, who was arrested in November 2003, claimed innocence and accused Yemen’s neighbour Saudi Arabia and the United States of putting pressure on the country’s authorities to indict him. He is facing charges of being part of an armed gang formed to attack foreign interests and damage Yemen’s security and stability. Full Story
