Fighting in the Kivu provinces in the east of the Democratic Republic of the Congo poses a serious threat to the country’s peace process, the International Crisis Group (ICG) says in a new report. The ICG, a multinational analysis and advocacy organisation, said unless a peace process was “crafted specially for the Kivus and made central to the government’s transition programme and international efforts”, a power-sharing agreement signed in December between Congolese parties would fail.
