Nigeria Rescue Efforts Resume after Blast

Police had to use gun fire to keep the crowds back. Rescue workers in Lagos are using a crane to lift rubble in the search for survivors and clues to Sunday’s explosion in Lagos. At least 22 people were killed in the blast, which destroyed three buildings in the overcrowded centre of Nigeria’s commercial capital. Police have said they are still investigating but local residents say they are in no doubt that the blast was not accidental. Only last week, Nigerians commemorated the first anniversary of a huge explosion at an arms depot in Lagos in which more than 1,000 people were killed. Full Story
