AN Italian academic was in protective custody in London and awaiting tests for radiation exposure last night, after the death by poisoning of former Russian spy Alexander Litvinenko. Mario Scaramella, who met Litvinenko at a London sushi bar on November 1, was said by SKY TV and the BBC to be undergoing tests to determine whether he, too, had been contaminated by polonium-210.
