Two bombs exploded 90 minutes apart on the campuses of two of China’s top universities on Tuesday, injuring nine people, police and university officials said. The explosions came at lunchtime in cafeterias at Peking University and Tsinghua University, both located in northwestern Beijing. Police are still investigating but believe both blasts involved homemade gunpowder, said a Beijing police spokeswoman, who would give only her family name, Gao. There were no immediate claims of responsibility. Bomb attacks are often used in China when business and personal disputes turn violent. The first explosion occurred in a teacher’s cafeteria at the center of the Tsinghua University campus at 11:50 a.m. local time, said a university spokeswoman who would not give her name.
