An Algerian court on Monday sentenced in his absence the founder of the Salafist Group for Preaching and Combat (GSPC) Islamist extremist group to life in prison for setting up an “armed terrorist group.” The criminal court in Tizi Ouzou, 110 kilometres (69 miles) east of Algiers, passed the sentence on Hassan Hattab, the APS news agency reported.
