Italian President Dissolves Parliament

President Giorgio Napolitano of Italy dissolved the country’s Parliament on Wednesday, and the cabinet set April 13 as the date for new national elections. Napolitano took the action after Italy’s political factions failed to agree a plan to revise the country’s flawed electoral law before a new vote. “I regret having to call Italians to the vote, without the reform of the electoral law,” Napolitano told reporters in Rome.
