The web page of Spain’s ruling party collapsed Thursday under a flood of e-mails protesting the government’s support for the war in Iraq. The site received more than 100,000 e-mails virtually at once, said Juan Manuel Moreno, the party’s director for new technology. The onslaught had been announced days ago by an anti-war platform located at www.noalaguerra.com and the party tried to get ready but the page was overloaded anyway, Moreno said. “This is an attack on the freedom of expression of a democratically elected party,” he said. Prime Minister Jose Maria Aznar is a staunch supporter of the United States in its campaign to oust Saddam Hussein, but many Spaniards are vehemently against the war. Full Story
