CoreWeave Inc. has expanded its agreements to supply data center capacity to OpenAI by as much as $6.5 billion to a total of $22.4 billion, the latest deal to underscore the immense demand worldwide for AI computing capacity. CoreWeave had announced an initial pact with OpenAI in March for as much as $11.9 billion in business and followed that in May with a deal worth as much as $4 billion. Thursday’s announcement brings CoreWeave’s total contract value with OpenAI to as much as roughly $22.4 billion, according to a company statement. Data center developer and operator CoreWeave is among a crop of “neoclouds,” businesses that rent out access to leading AI chips. It competes with companies like Nebius and Nscale, the latter of which announced on Thursday that it had raised $1.1 billion in financing following a partnership with Nvidia Corp. and OpenAI in the UK. The sudden rise of neoclouds — and the rush of capital they’re receiving — has worked to reinforce that demand for AI infrastructure remains strong among tech giants who are racing to build and run the most advanced AI systems.
