The U.S. Department of War has announced approximately $350 million in new quantum computing initiatives to secure America’s technological edge in defense. The funding aims to accelerate mission-relevant applications in materials science, chemistry, and physics to build next-generation military capabilities. DARPA has advanced four quantum-computing providers to Stage C of its Quantum Benchmarking Initiative, allocating roughly $200 million for utility-scale validation. The Office of Strategic Capital issued a $150 million conditional loan commitment to support PsiQuantum’s advanced domestic manufacturing and prototyping. In coordination with agencies like the Department of Energy, DARPA will also host application workshops ahead of January 2027 to identify high-value national defense use cases.
