Google is expanding its chip development operations in Israel, recruiting executives and hardware engineers from startup Hailo in recent weeks to form a team focused on artificial intelligence chips for edge devices, including robots and autonomous systems. The company has also hired Ido Bukspan, a former Nvidia Israel executive and former CEO of startup Pliops, to lead data networking chip development at its Israeli development center. Google launched its Israeli chip operations in 2021 as part of Google Cloud. Under Uri Frank’s leadership, the group has grown significantly in recent years and now employs an estimated 700 engineers in Tel Aviv and Haifa, developing chips and computing infrastructure for the company.
