Taiwan opens sovereign AI data center with Nvidia-powered supercomputer

Taiwan has opened its latest and largest AI supercomputing data center with Nvidia’s most advanced Blackwell chips, a major effort in the government’s push to develop sovereign capabilities in artificial intelligence and to drive innovation in the island’s all-important semiconductor industry. “The launch of the latest AI data center is a milestone that Taiwan has migrated from a hardware manufacturing economy to an artificial intelligent computing country,” Taiwanese President Lai Ching-te said at the opening ceremony for the National Center for High-performance Computing (NCHC) cloud computing center. This key AI computing infrastructure will pave the way for Taiwan to stay competitive in the global tech space and thrive for the next 30 years, Lai said. “This is the national policy that we must carry out.”
