Saudi police arrested four armed Islamic militants as they tried to cross the border into Iraq, a security official said. “The four Saudi Islamists were arrested yesterday (Sunday) near the Arar border crossing as they tried to infiltrate into Iraq,” said the official, requesting anonymity. “Four assault rifles were seized from those detained, who were questioned about what they planned to do,” he said. Iraqi police have implicated Saudi nationals in several deadly attacks in recent months, including an August car bombing in the central pilgrimage city of Najaf that killed leading Shiite Muslim cleric Mohammad Baqer al-Hakim and 82 other people.
