Foreign Affairs Secretary Alberto Romulo said that he has been assured by Ambassador John D. Negroponte of the continuing US cooperation in the Philippines’ war on terrorism, during their meeting in Washington D.C. yesterday. Negroponte is the first ever Director for National Intelligence in the US, overseeing fifteen US intelligence agencies, and was the US ambassador to the Philippines from 1993 to 1996. Romulo said that in cognizance of the importance of intelligence exchanges as a means of detecting and thwarting terrorist attacks, the US official had promised strengthened cooperation between the Philippines and the US on intelligence sharing on terrorism.
