Cybercom discovered Chinese malware in South American nations — Joint Chiefs chairman nominee

Lt. Gen. Dan Caine, President Trump’s nominee to be the next chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, stated that U.S. Cyber Command has found Chinese malware planted in Latin American nations. The malware was found in hunt-forward operations, which involve cyber protection teams visiting foreign nations to look for malicious activity on their networks. Details about specific countries where Cybercom conducts such operations are highly sensitive, and Cybercom has not yet responded to confirm or deny Caine’s assertion. These types of operations were conducted in Ukraine, helping to limit the effectiveness of Russian cyber operations.
