French Bank Crédit Mutuel Arkéa Reports €100 Million Missing After Sophisticated Cyberattack

French cooperative banking group Crédit Mutuel Arkéa disclosed that it is missing approximately €100 million ($112.61 million) following a severe cyber heist. The bank stated that attackers bypassed direct defenses by infiltrating the digital platform of an external service provider to gain unauthorized access to internal banking systems. On-chain investigators and blockchain analysts revealed that the stolen funds were swiftly funneled through unauthorized institutional transactions and converted into cryptocurrencies on specialized trading platforms.Crédit Mutuel Arkéa explicitly assured its 5.8 million members and customers that individual retail accounts and private assets were not compromised or touched by the incident. Following the detection of suspicious activity, the bank temporarily suspended select transfer channels, collaborated with judicial authorities, and managed to freeze a portion of the crypto-converted assets.
