A major cyberattack exposed the personal records of more than 40,000 employees and associates of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. The leaked dataset includes names, personal phone numbers, and addresses of workers across multiple agencies, including over 21,000 from Customs and Border Protection and roughly 10,000 from ICE. Security and law enforcement officials have expressed deep concern because the exposed documents reportedly include identities of personnel tied to sensitive undercover operations. A group styling itself the “Department of Peace” claimed responsibility for obtaining the information and shared it with DDoSecrets, which published the records in a searchable database called Icepick. While the hackers and transparency groups defended the release as a step toward government oversight, federal agencies are facing urgent pressure to secure internal identity systems and protect personnel safety.
