U.S. agencies warn of cyber threats to industrial control systems as many devices remain vulnerable.
Federal cybersecurity bodies have issued a joint bulletin alerting organizations to possible Iranian retaliation following recent airstrikes, with a focus on attacks against industrial control systems and operational technology. Researchers at Censys scan the internet and identify hundreds to thousands of internet-connected ICS devices that still use default or weak credentials. The agencies recommend isolating critical OT assets from the public internet, enforcing strong unique passwords, applying software patches promptly, enabling multifactor authentication, and conducting regular security reviews to reduce exposure to these threats.
