MetaMask announced an ongoing security incident impacting a portion of its backend infrastructure, triggering a rapid emergency response. As a strict precautionary measure, the platform is proactively exiting its Ethereum validators linked to non-custodial staking operations. Liquid staking protocol Lido Finance confirmed that MetaMask’s affected validators are undergoing the exit process, with full removal anticipated shortly. MetaMask assured customers that there is no immediate or direct threat to individual user self-custodial wallets or private keys. Investigations remain underway in coordination with external security advisers to determine the scope of the compromise and fully secure systems.
