Hot Topic is the victim of a recent data breach, and millions of customers are being impacted. In the breach, around 57 million unique email addresses were stolen. The personal information of roughly 25 million individuals was also compromised. This leaked information includes dates of birth and partial credit card data. The data breach occurred in October 2024, but the email addresses have now been posted online. The alleged hacker behind the incident originally requested $100,000 from Hot Topic in exchange for the information’s removal. Researchers have theorized that the data breach occurred after an employee was infiltrated by a password-stealing malware infection.
