Netherlands fines uber for unlawful automated driver bans.

Dutch regulators fined Uber €825 million for using fully automated systems to suspend driver accounts without human review and for failing to inform drivers, violating EU data protection rules between 2018 and 2022. The authority said Uber’s software sometimes permanently blocked drivers, breaching GDPR’s ban on automated decision‑making. Uber plans to appeal, arguing the policies were discontinued and that current processes include human checks and appeals. This marks the agency’s fourth fine against Uber, following a 2024 penalty for transferring European driver data to the U.S.
