UN aid chief warns Russian drones threaten civilians and aid work in Ukraine

Drone attacks hinder aid access in Ukraine.

U.N. humanitarian chief Tom Fletcher warned that Russia’s growing use of surveillance and exploding drones against civilians and aid workers is making relief operations increasingly dangerous, especially in frontline areas like Kherson. He said marked humanitarian vehicles have been hit, limiting access to communities and heightening risks for local organizations that carry most of the response. Winter damage to electricity, water, and gas systems remains a major concern as the U.N. faces global funding shortfalls and rising humanitarian needs. Fletcher also highlighted rising violence against aid workers and called for accountability for those directing drone attacks, not just those carrying them out.
