A New York Times report revealed that U.S. intelligence agencies investigated a Chinese businesswoman suspected of passing information to Beijing after developing a close professional relationship with Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang. President Donald Trump was reportedly briefed on the intelligence findings roughly a year ago but chose not to take action, a decision attributed to his reluctance to disrupt Nvidia’s chip sales and trade ties. The revelations surface as Huang has engaged in heavy lobbying with the Trump administration to ease strict U.S. export controls on advanced artificial intelligence chips destined for China. Nvidia defended its CEO’s interactions, stating that Huang regularly meets with numerous customer executives and that any data shared consisted strictly of ordinary business information rather than classified trade secrets or national security details.
