Google is literally taking to space to test its latest AI Chips. Google said that it will be launching a prototype satellite next week aboard SpaceX’s Transporter-18 to test its TPU AI chips in low Earth orbit. Google is working with SpaceX and Planet Labs for this endeavour. Google said it will test wheter its AI chips hold up against cosmic radiation, extreme temperatures and launch forces. It will also be testing whether radiation can flip bits and corrupt data. Google has already been testing its AI Chips in lab conditions at UC Davis, but it for practical use it needs data from actual orbit. It’s also building heat-pipe and radiator cooling, since air cooling doesn’t work in a vacuum.
