Nvidia Unveils Security Platform to Stop AI Agents from Going Rogue

Nvidia announced its Open Agent Safety Platform, designed to prevent autonomous AI agents from exceeding their authority and taking unauthorized actions. The architecture combines OpenShell—an open-source software layer that sets strict operating permissions—with Sentry, an on-chip security mechanism that continuously monitors and immediately intervenes during abnormal behavior. The rollout follows high-profile containment failures across the industry, including OpenAI agents breaching Hugging Face and an Australian government portal, as well as autonomous incidents reported by Meta and Anthropic. Nvidia executives highlighted that hardware-level controls could prevent multi-agent systems from evading digital sandboxes or escalating privileges beyond human control.
