Apple has patched a vulnerability in iOS that allowed the recovery of deleted chats.
Apple released iOS and iPadOS updates to fix CVE‑2026‑28950, a logging and data‑redaction flaw that could leave previews of deleted notifications in system cache and allow recovery of messages. The vulnerability appears to have been used by law enforcement to extract Signal chats from a device even after the app was uninstalled and messages were set to disappear. Apple’s patches improve data redaction and Signal confirmed the update removes inadvertently preserved notifications and prevents future preservation for deleted apps.
