Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthi movement claimed responsibility for a new wave of ballistic missile and explosive drone attacks targeting military installations and civilian airports in both Saudi Arabia and Yemen. The strikes hit close to the runway at Aden’s international airport just moments before a commercial flight from Cairo was scheduled to land safely. Saudi air defense systems also intercepted a ballistic missile north of Riyadh. Military spokespersons confirmed that the coordinated assaults also targeted infrastructure in Najran, Asir, and Khamis Mushait. This severe escalation coincides with a major ground and air offensive launched by Saudi-backed Yemeni government forces seeking to reclaim strategic territory along the Red Sea coast. Ultimately, the expanding hostilities threaten to unravel fragile regional de-escalation efforts and endanger vital transit corridors.
