Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered a 32‑hour ceasefire over the Orthodox Easter weekend, following an earlier proposal from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for a holiday pause in strikes on energy infrastructure. The Kremlin said the halt would run from Saturday afternoon through Sunday night and instructed troops to be ready for “provocations.” Kyiv did not immediately respond, and past short‑term ceasefires have quickly collapsed, with each side accusing the other of violations. Broader U.S.-mediated talks remain stalled as fighting continues along the roughly 1,250‑kilometer front line.
