Microsoft announced its new hybrid intelligence strategy, merging local and cloud-based AI to transform Windows 11 into a secure command center for autonomous AI agents. The flagship 15-inch Surface Laptop Ultra was unveiled, powered by NVIDIA’s new RTX Spark superchip and featuring up to 128 GB of unified memory starting at $2,599. The platform introduces built-in security containerization and isolation tools to safely track and restrict what permissions background AI agents can access on a user’s machine. Microsoft also showcased developer-focused hardware like the Surface RTX Spark Dev Box, enabling heavy model experiments and local software building previously restricted to cloud data centers. The hardware and software push escalates competition with Apple in the “AI PC” market, emphasizing powerful local computing capabilities over cloud-dependent execution.
